Two people, including an elderly woman, have died in separate suspected murder incidents reported from the Pitigala and Tissamaharama areas, police said.
In the Horangalla area of Pitigala, a 60-year-old man was killed after being attacked with a sharp weapon. Police stated that the incident had reportedly occurred following a dispute between two individuals that escalated.
The suspect, who was also injured during the incident, has been arrested and admitted to Aluthgama Hospital.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in the Gamunupura area of Tissamaharama, an 88-year-old woman was found murdered inside a house.
Police said the victim had sustained multiple cut injuries, while the suspect or suspects involved have not yet been identified.
