New Nighttime Traffic Protocols Implemented by Acting Inspector General of Police

The Acting Inspector General of Police has announced updated procedures for officers on night traffic duty regarding vehicle stops. It has been noted that officers often utilize various flashlight types when signaling drivers, leading to visibility challenges. The glare from these flashlights can hinder drivers’ ability to safely navigate their vehicles. This decision comes as a response to increased accident risks and heightened danger for traffic officers, particularly due to the absence of reflective jackets.

To enhance safety, the Acting IGP has mandated that officers on nighttime duty wear luminous jackets and gloves for better visibility. They are also directed to use the designated red flashlights from police stations for signaling vehicles to stop. Furthermore, Police HQIs, OICs, and traffic OICs are tasked with monitoring compliance with these new guidelines during night shifts.
