Today marks a significant milestone in the preparations for the 2024 General Election, as the National Election Commission initiates the distribution of ballot boxes and essential stationery items. According to Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratanayake, this distribution will take place from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM and will encompass a total of 13,314 polling centers across the nation.
In addition to the distribution, a rehearsal to ensure smooth election operations will be organized in collaboration with the election office. This practice run aims to familiarize staff with the election process and address any potential challenges ahead of the actual voting day.
To maintain order and security during the election, Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa announced that 64,000 police officials will be deployed nationwide. Their presence will ensure that all polling stations are monitored closely, allowing citizens to participate in the democratic process safely and confidently. With these preparations in place, the National Election Commission aims to facilitate a transparent and efficient electoral experience for all voters.
