The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced a closure of all schools across the island on November 13 and 14 in preparation for the 2024 General Election. Schools are set to reopen on November 18.
The parliamentary election is scheduled for November 14 (Thursday). Consequently, schools designated as polling stations must be handed over to the respective Grama Niladhari Officers after school hours on November 12.
Zonal Education Directors and school principals have been instructed to ensure that necessary tables, chairs, and facilities are provided for the polling operations.
Furthermore, at the request of the Election Commission Chairman, the MoE stated that schools designated as counting centers will remain closed only during the specific time outlined in the relevant documentation. This measure aims to facilitate a smooth election process while ensuring the necessary resources are available for the conduct of the polls.
