The elite Special Task Force (STF) has increased security in Colombo, Weligama, and Ella following a warning from the US Embassy about a potential terror threat in Arugam Bay, according to a senior defense source.
Security measures in Arugam Bay have been ramped up since the initial alert from the US and other countries to Sri Lanka’s intelligence community weeks ago. However, additional precautions have also been implemented in Colombo, Weligama, and Ella until further notice.
The STF is leading the operation, with several officers and intelligence personnel deployed in key areas. While there is no indication of when the security situation will return to normal, all necessary precautions are in place to prevent any incidents and protect both tourists and locals, the defense source stated.
