President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has introduced a new initiative aimed at advancing Sri Lanka’s digital transformation. The National People’s Power (NPP) Government has invited top telecommunications sector professional Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya to head the Government-proposed digitalisation process under a new institutional framework.
Dissanayake stressed the necessity of moving away from outdated systems, pointing out the inefficiencies of processes like purchasing bus tickets and obtaining various certificates. A key objective is to allow citizens to perform tasks such as paying taxes online from home.
The President mentioned that the expert is ready to voluntarily lead the digitalization initiative and is expected to begin within one to two weeks. He also expressed a commitment to improving state efficiency over the next few years. In response to potential doubts, he assured that the National People’s Power (NPP) government is dedicated to the nation’s growth.
