SSP Muthumala proposed to become the first woman as CID Director

A proposal has been made to appoint a female officer as the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), a historic first for the Sri Lanka Police.

Senior Superintendent Imesha Muthumala, currently the Deputy Director of CID, is the suggested candidate. Muthumala was one of the first three female Assistant Superintendents to join the police in 2007 and became a Superintendent in 2017, with potential to advance to Inspector General of Police.

She holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from Ruhuna University and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the Open University. Muthumala has served in various roles, including in the Nugegoda Police Division and overseeing the Computer Crime Investigation Division. She became Deputy Director of the CID in June 2021.

Her training includes courses in crisis management, anti-money laundering, and internet crime. Alongside Muthumala’s nomination, DIG P. Ampavila has been proposed for Deputy Inspector General of the CID.
