2024 General Election nominations begin

This morning (04), the process of receiving nominations for the 2024 General Election began.

Activities for receiving nominations commenced at the district secretariats in 22 electoral districts today.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, on September 24, issued an Extraordinary Gazette setting November 14, 2024, as the election date for new Members of Parliament.

The Gazette specified a nomination period from October 04 to noon on October 11, 2024, during which Returning Officers will accept nomination papers.

Sri Lanka’s Parliament consists of 225 members, with 196 elected from 22 electoral districts and 29 appointed from the national list based on each party’s or group’s vote share in the general election.
