The Ministry of Education (MoE) has issued a statement concerning the alleged leaking of the Grade 5 Scholarship exam paper.
As per the statement, the Department of Examinations and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are currently investigating the reported incident. It goes on to say that a decision on this issue will be reached following the completion of these inquiries.
On Tuesday (17), the Commissioner General of Examinations, Amit Jayasundara, confirmed ongoing investigations into allegations that a teacher in the Alawwa area had uploaded a model question paper containing three questions akin to those in the first paper of the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam, on social media.
He indicated that if the investigations confirm the leak, those specific questions will be excluded during the marking process.
The Exams Chief mentioned that a team of investigators will visit the concerned area to conduct a probe, with a final decision to follow upon receiving their report.
Following this, a group of parents of students who recently took the Grade 5 Scholarship exam staged a demonstration in front of the Department of Examinations on the previous day (18) opposing the proposed removal of the three questions from the first paper of the exam.
The protesters insisted that rather than removing specific questions, the entire Grade 5 Scholarship examination held on September 15 should be invalidated.
