Sri Lankan Army Officer Cadet still missing

Sri Lankan officials have not received any updates on the whereabouts of Officer Cadet Mohammed Aneek of the Sri Lanka Army, who recently completed his training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, as per official sources.

Following Officer Cadet Aneek’s disappearance in mid-August, the Sri Lanka Army has initiated an investigation into the matter.

Rohitha Bogollagama, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the UK, was present at the ceremony to personally congratulate Aneek.

Scheduled to return to Sri Lanka after departing the academy on August 9, Aneek missed his flight the next day. Despite an offer from the Sri Lankan High Commission for transportation to the airport, Aneek reportedly declined, opting to arrange his own travel.

Major General K.A.N. Rasika Kumara, the Sri Lanka Army Spokesman, stated that there are no developments concerning Aneek’s whereabouts. The UK’s Ministry of Defence has been informed of the disappearance, and investigations are underway.

Although several of Aneek’s relatives residing in the UK attended his Commissioning Ceremony, there have been no updates on his location.

Regarding the potential impact of this incident on Sri Lanka’s involvement in future international military training programs, the spokesman acknowledged that such incidents could have implications for similar opportunities in the future.
