The Constitutional Council has rejected the proposal made my President Ranil Wickremesinghe to extend the tenure of current Attorney General Sanjaya Rajaratnam by an additional 6 months, sources close to The Newsdesk SL confirms.
The Newsdesk SL, earlier last month, through reliable sources, revealed that President Ranil Wickremesinghe had made a proposal to extend the tenure of the AG despite it being unconstitutional, after which this matter was brought to light and members of the constitutional council states that it was the first time that such a request had been made.
Whereas, when The Newsdesk contacted the AG, he states that he was unaware of such a request that was made by President Wickremesinghe.
