Six persons have been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for allegedly committing financial fraud to the tune of over Rs. 28 million.The group of suspects comprising three males and three females are believed to have produced cheques from bank accounts with insufficient funds for the purchase of 15 gemstones worth Rs. 28.75 million, police reported.One of the six suspects had been arrested in Fort, Colombo on Friday (19 Jan.), after which the other five suspects were arrested in Jaffna.The three male suspects, aged 24, 30 and 36, were identified as residents of Beruwala and Jaffna, while the three female suspects, aged 25, 43 and 53 have been identified as residents of Jaffna.Further investigations into the large-scale fraud are being carried out by the CID.
