“Satharawa Deepani” celebrated at BMICH

The “Satharawa Deepani” felicitation ceremony, an event organized from the concept by the Minister for Transport and Highways, Dr. Bandula Gunawardena was held yesterday (16). 

It was held at the BMICH , under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Veteran artists Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, Parakrama Niriella and Cyril Wickremage, who contibuted to produce several works of art, were awarded at the ceremony yesterday.

Professor Ariyarathne Athugala, Kumara Thirimadura and Sarath Kothalawala were also appreciated.

“Subandu Sinama Watha” a novel based on Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena’s cinematic life, by veteran journalists Dr. Praneeth Abeyasundara, Ranjith Kumara, Aruna Gunarathne and Dinusha Kudagodage was published.

Furthermore, 251 students were given scholarships under the annual scholarship programme “Pragna Bandu”, which was founded by Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena. 

25 students were awarded scholarships on stage by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Former President Maithripala Sirisena and the Minister of Education, Susil Premajayanthe, symbolizing the scholarship distribution. 

The main oration of the ceremony was given by veteran film critic Gamini Weragama.

The Theros of Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Sangha Sabha including Mahanayake Thero Ven.Dr. Ittapene Dhammalankara thera, Foreign service officers, Ambassadors, High commissioners, Ministers, Party and Opposition leaders, Political representatives, Heads of media houses, Journalists, Professionals and other invitees were present at the ceremony.
