Legal action has been initiated against Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) over the ‘defamatory statements’ made regarding the cricket governing body.

According to a media release published today (15), SLC’s President, Vice President and Treasurer jointly filed a defamation lawsuit against the minister on Monday (13), seeking damages adding up to Rs. 2.4 billion.

“In response to the persistent and damaging defamatory statements made by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roshan Ranasinghe, Sri Lanka Cricket has taken a decisive step to protect its reputation and integrity.”

It has been acknowledged by SLC that substantial harm had been caused to the image of Sri Lanka Cricket on both a domestic and international level due to the ‘continuous dissemination of false and harmful statements’ by Minister Ranasinghe.

“Sri Lanka Cricket represented by its top leadership, is committed to upholding transparency, accountability, and fair play in all its endeavors.”
