Following a Defender crash at Velikulam in Vavuniya last night (10), two Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel have been killed whilst five other STF personnel were injured and hospitalised.
Police have reported that the accident occurred at around 9:30pm. Amidst the heavy downpour, the STF’s Land Rover had collided with a cow, causing the vehicle to crash into a wall after veering off the road.
Two STF personnel died following the incident while the injured have been admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital. Two remain in critical condition.
The deceased, identified as two Police Constables of the STF were aged 29 and 31. They were resident ls of Kurunegala and Medawachchiya.
The injured personnel includes a Sub-Inspector (SI), two Sergeants and a Police Constable who was the driver of the vehicle.
Further investigation is being conducted by Vavuniya Police.
