A petition has been filed at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka yesterday (03) against the legality of the recently proposed Online Safety Bill.
This was made known to The News Desk by SJB youth Vice Chairman Rehan Jayawickreme today.
The Petition was filed by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, SJB youth Vice Chairman Rehan Jayawickreme and Former Minister Prof. G L Peiris.
The controversial Online Safety Bill, which was tabled for debate in Parliament yesterday, has come under the spotlight of global tech giants for the bill’s effect on the general public and it’s freedom of expression, with giants such as The Asia Internet Coalition labelling the bill as an effort to ‘dampen innovation by restricting public debate and the exchange of ideas that can consequently impact the digital economy.’
