Yevan David Makes History as First Sri Lankan to Win Euroformula Open Race

Yevan David made history today by winning his first-ever Euroformula Open race at Monza, becoming the first driver from Sri Lanka to secure a victory in a major international single-seater series. The Colombo-born driver for Motopark displayed impressive skill in the rainy conditions, showcasing assertiveness at the start and effectively defending his lead.

He expressed his joy after the race: “It’s a great day for me. The race was tough but I could pull away at the start, then I made a couple of mistakes and I had to fight but I recovered well. The Dallara is mega to drive, especially on wet track. I’m very happy for all those who put their trust on me and for my country.”

Brad Benavides struggled from pole position and faced challenges from David and others, leading to confusion that allowed David to pull ahead. On lap 7, Barrichello passed Ryabov for third, but the battle intensified among several drivers. Barrichello eventually spun out while Simonazzi finished strong, taking second place ahead of Garfias.
