Early this morning, a woman was apprehended at Bandaranaike International Airport for unlawfully importing a substantial quantity of foreign-made cigarettes into the country.
She was discovered with 184 cartons, totalling 36,800 cigarettes of different brands.
The confiscated cigarettes are valued at around Rs. 5.5 million.
The 34-year-old suspect, hailing from Ja-Ela, is slated to appear before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.
