Wicked Sequel Set for Theatrical Release on November 21

The highly anticipated sequel to the musical fantasy film Wicked has been officially named Wicked: For Good, as announced by Universal Pictures. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film will hit theaters on November 21, according to the official X handle of Wicked.

Featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in leading roles, Wicked is inspired by the acclaimed Broadway musical, which in turn is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel. The original film, also directed by Chu, premiered globally in November and has already grossed over Rs 525 million at the box office.

Wicked serves as both a prequel and a fresh perspective on the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, which adapted L. Frank Baum’s first book, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.’ Set in the enchanting Land of Oz prior to the events of Baum’s story, the film chronicles the journey of Elphaba (Erivo), the future Wicked Witch of the West, and her friendship with Galinda (Grande), who is destined to become Glinda the Good.

The cast also includes Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond.
