Tourism revenue in Sri Lanka exceeds two billion US dollars.

According to the latest data from Sri Lanka’s Central Bank, tourism revenue in the country exceeded two billion US dollars in the first eight months of 2024.

During this period, Sri Lanka earned 2.17 billion dollars, marking a significant 66.1 percent rise from the same timeframe in 2023. The number of tourist arrivals also saw a substantial increase of 50.7 percent, with 1.36 million tourists visiting the country in the first eight months of 2024, as reported by Xinhua news agency citing Central Bank data.

In August 2024 alone, arrivals totaled 164,609, showing an approximate 20 percent increase compared to August 2023, according to Central Bank statistics.

Tourism stands as a key foreign revenue source for Sri Lanka, with authorities anticipating three million foreign tourists in 2025, as stated by Nalin Perera, the Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
