Two women, aged 67 and 70, who were employed as housemaids in Matara’s Brown’s Hill have been found murdered.
The employer, who was outside the home, observed that the maids were not in the house upon her arrival. A search for them was conducted with the neighbours.
According to the police, the bodies of two women were discovered inside the bathroom used by them.
Further investigations revealed that 12 non-gold bangles, two gold necklaces, one golden spoon and 39 foreign currency coins were stolen from a cupboard inside the house.
Matara police had apprehended a suspect in relation to the incident.
Police stated that the arrested suspect is a 25-year-old resident of the Thudawa area who was in possession of the stolen jewelry.
