Sri Lankan authorities will gather all tourism stakeholders at a conference in January to finalize a national branding strategy aimed at enhancing the industry, which is currently experiencing growth. The existing campaign tagline, ‘You will come back for more,’ will be replaced by this new strategy, as announced by Sri Lanka Tourism chairman Buddhika Hewawasam.
Hewawasam emphasized the goal of developing one cohesive national brand while leveraging the popularity of Ceylon tea and Sri Lanka’s cricket success. He noted that future tourism efforts will focus on promoting these iconic elements.
The tagline ‘You will come back for more’ was created in response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic crisis in 2022. Hewawasam stated, “This tagline was created to woo back tourists and is not relevant today as Sri Lanka has won a lot of recognition in recent times internationally.”
Tourist arrivals surged to 1.8 million from January to November 2024, up from 1.3 million the previous year. With a target of over two million visitors, key source markets include India, Russia, the UK, Germany, and China. A PR firm will also be appointed in January to launch the new promotional campaign.
