According to new data from Flash Pack, solo travellers are getting older and increasingly gravitating towards Asian destinations, with Sri Lanka taking the lead as the most popular location for 2025. This marks a significant rise from its fourth-place ranking in 2024. Flash Pack describes Sri Lanka as a compact version of India, offering diverse experiences such as bustling incense-filled cities, serene tea plantations in misty highlands, and stunning coastlines. The country is particularly appealing for its blend of beautiful beaches, luxurious accommodations, and flavorful, restorative cuisine.
The average age of solo travellers with Flash Pack has risen from 36 to 39 since the pandemic, indicating a maturing market for independent tourism. This trend aligns with a rise in “social travel,” which has fostered over 160,000 new friendships, including 50,000 in 2024 alone. Asia dominates the solo travel scene, with five of the top ten destinations for 2025 located there. Notably, holiday bookings have surged, with a 70% increase in Easter reservations and a doubling of Christmas bookings, reflecting a strong demand for festive adventures. This evolving market emphasizes social connections and enriching cultural experiences.
