Joining the “Derana Aruna” program today (19th), Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Talduwa conveyed guidelines to voters regarding prohibited items at polling stations for casting their votes.
He highlighted the issue of individuals consuming alcohol in the morning and struggling to make informed decisions at the polling station. DIG Nihal Talduwa stressed the importance of voter conduct that does not disrupt the voting process, mentioning that intoxicated individuals would be removed from the premises by the police.
Furthermore, he mentioned incidents where people tried to enter polling stations with items like sharp weapons, small knives, and mobile phones. He emphasised that such objects, particularly mobile phones, were not permitted due to their potential for recording and disturbance caused by ringing, noting that even minor disruptions at a single polling station could impact the entire voting process.
