Sri Lanka announce squad for the O50s Cricket World Cup

A 17-member contingent representing Sri Lanka for the Over-50s Cricket World Cup has been released, with the Sri Lankan team to be led by former first-class cricketer Senarath Senevirathne. Shane Fernando has been appointed the vice-captain, while Shantha Gunasekara has been appointed the team manager/co-ordinator for this tournament. Among the selected members are also former Sri Lanka “A” representatives Suwanji Madanayake and Ruvin Peiris. The tournament will be held in South Africa from 6 to 22 March 2023. 

The tournament, organised for cricketers aged above 50 years, will be played next year with the participation of 14 teams that include Sri Lanka, Australia, England, India, South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies, Pakistan, Wales, Namibia, Zimbabwe, the US, the UAE, and Canada. 

The Sri Lankan team is set to leave the island on 2 January 2023.

Australia are the defending champions, having managed to clinch the title in the two previous championships in 2018 and 2020.
