During a visit to flood-affected Valencia, the King and Queen of Spain faced a barrage of mud and other objects from enraged protesters. As they walked through the hard-hit town of Paiporta, shouts of “murderer” and “shame” echoed from the crowd, aimed at the royal couple, Spain’s prime minister, and other officials. With mud smeared on their faces and clothing, King Felipe and Queen Letizia were later seen comforting members of the audience. The floods have claimed over 200 lives, marking the worst disaster of its kind in Spain in decades. Emergency responders are still searching through underground parking lots and tunnels in hopes of locating survivors and recovering bodies.
