K.M. Mahinda Siriwardena has officially started his role as the Secretary of the Ministry overseeing Finance, Economic Development, Policy Making, Planning, and Tourism today.
Mr. Siriwardena, who previously served in this capacity during the administration of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has resumed his duties. The deputy secretaries of the treasury and department heads falling under the finance ministry were present at the commencement ceremony.
His efforts were instrumental in securing an extended credit facility from the International Monetary Fund and ensuring the success of the country’s debt restructuring process. Mr. Siriwardena also served as the Alternate Executive Director representing Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.
He holds a master’s degree in economics and a post-graduate diploma in economic development from Vanderbilt University in the United States, as well as a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Kelaniya.Share
