The second stock of imported eggs is expected to get clearance to be released from the port today (08), said the State Trade Corporation (STC).
According to the STC chairman Asiri Walisundara, the delivery will be cleared after the Animal Production & Health Department hands over the relevant analysis reports on the egg samples today.
The second stock of one million eggs imported from India reached the island on March 29, followed by the arrival of the long-awaited first shipment carrying 2 million eggs on March 23.
Meanwhile, the Animal Production & Health Department will obtain samples today from the third shipment of imported eggs which reached the island on April 04.
The president of Bakery Owners’ Association N.K. Jayawardena claimed that an inadequate number of bakeries receive imported eggs.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) officers are carrying on their raids in search of vendors selling eggs at higher prices.
