Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s corruption case is set to be heard tomorrow (29) at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Wickremesinghe was remanded and subsequently bailed in August over alleged misuse of Rs. 16.9 Mn in public funds during an official UK visit in 2023.
Crowds in support of Wickremesinghe and against the government gathered across Colombo in protest against his arrest, citing that his arrest was a move by the government to intimidate the former president.
Several opposition politicians attended the protests in support of Wickremesinghe, including main opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
