PUCSL Chair denies ‘grounds for removal’, writes to Ranil

The Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), Janaka Ratnayake confirmed that he has received notice of the proposed grounds for his removal as the Commission’s Chairman.

He also said that a reply denying all allegations was scheduled to be sent to the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies, President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (28).

In January, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera had stated that a charge sheet has been drafted and that legal measures will be taken by the Government to remove Ratnayake. He alleged that Ratnayake has carried out all the Commission’s activities and decisions based on his sole opinion, arbitrarily, and not as the PUCSL.

In response, Ratnayake had said that he is eagerly waiting to face the charge sheet against him.

Ratnayake was the sole member of the PUCSL to oppose the recent electricity tariff hikes. He has, subsequent to the latest tariffs being approved and since coming into effect, challenged the matter in Court.
