Prez Meets South African High Commissioner to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with South African High Commissioner Sandile Edwin Schalk this morning (25) at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo. The High Commissioner conveyed a greeting from the South African President and reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Sri Lanka.

They discussed the application of South Africa’s peace and reconciliation model in Sri Lanka and explored ways to enhance international trade through the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The conversation also focused on boosting the travel and tourism sector for mutual benefit.

A key topic was the exchange of technology to manage human-elephant conflicts, as well as South Africa’s interest in collaborating with Sri Lanka in defense, agriculture, and technology sectors.

President Dissanayake updated the High Commissioner on Sri Lanka’s security situation, highlighting recent measures taken to improve safety for tourists and residents. He assured that these efforts have led to strengthened security protocols in key tourist areas in response to recent travel advisories.

Deputy High Commissioner Ms. Rene Everson-Varney and Second Secretary Ms. Zanethemba-Leilla Tshangela also participated in the discussions.
