President’s Diwali message highlights unity and enlightenment

In his message for the 2024 Diwali Festival, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasizes the global celebration of Diwali by Hindu devotees, marking the victory of light over darkness. He highlights that this festival symbolizes hope, joy, and the triumph of good over evil, fostering unity and celebration within communities.

Drawing parallels to Sri Lanka, the President notes that the nation has long sought progress amid challenges since independence. He states, “Now, fresh hope is emerging as the realization of their long-held hopes,” as the aspirations of the people, previously suppressed by past rulers, are finally coming to the forefront.

The President reflects on the legends inspiring Diwali, including the return of King Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana to Ayodhya after exile, and the defeat of the Asura Narakasura by Lord Vishnu. He urges everyone to “light the Diwali of wisdom this year,” advocating for a new mindset that promotes enlightenment and progress.

He calls for respect and acceptance, emphasizing the need for the Sri Lankan nation to unite against division and injustice. This Diwali, he highlights the importance of cultural and political transformation to achieve a prosperous future for all, wishing that the light of harmony and wisdom fills every heart.
