President Ranil Wickremesinge expressed his strong opposition to an international investigation into the Easter Sunday attacks during an interview with Deutsche Welle.
Visibly agitated, President Wickremesinghe stated that the interviewer was ‘talking nonsense’ when confronted with the possibility of an international probe of the Easter Attacks on Sri Lanka.
“Why do you treat channel 4 as sacred. Just because the media makes accusations, why should we check. The former attorney general made accusations as well. The former director general of the CID has made accusations, ask me something else. Why only channel 4?,” said President Wickremesinghe.
He further noted that a committee has been appointed by himself to investigate into the allegations made by the foreign media outlets, adding that he only deals with the Bishop’s conference not the Cardinal.
President Wickremesinghe then slammed the interviewer saying, ‘you don’t deal with the Bishop’s conference, I do. You just sit here with a peice of paper’.
“What can be done within one year. This is a transition period. Hunger is down, poverty is down. The economy has picked up in the last one year. We are not saying there is no hunger, there is hunger. That is why I took over.
During the interview, President Ranil Wickremesinghe firmly mentioned that if further pressed, he would walk out of the interview.
