President Anura Kumara Dissanayake asserted that the responsibility for transforming the new year rests with the government. During the launch of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national initiative, he noted that the political establishment is dedicated to this task and emphasized the emergence of a new political culture this year.
“Starting any strong endeavor requires a very strong foundation,” he stated, adding, “Our country, our nation, has lost its foundation.” He highlighted that significant groundwork has been laid to restore political authority, state machinery, and the rule of law, while also addressing issues of fraud and corruption.
The President urged state institutions to recognize their roles in supporting government efforts. He remarked, “The intervention and example of the political establishment alone are not enough to stop corruption and fraud,” stressing the need for accountability.
Acknowledging pervasive governance issues, he noted, “Bribery and corruption have spread like a cancer throughout the state.” He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to re-establishing the rule of law.
Looking forward, he outlined three key objectives: launching a new economic program to eliminate poverty, digitizing governance, and implementing the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative to restore national integrity. “The Clean Sri Lanka program aims to rebuild our dilapidated motherland by ensuring accountability and transparency in every sector,” he concluded.
