In a recent address at a public meeting in Kegalle, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced a new initiative aimed at supporting school children who struggle to afford essential stationery and equipment. The allowance will be implemented at the start of the new school term, scheduled for the end of January next year.
President Dissanayake emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that all children have access to necessary educational supplies as they return to school. He also revealed plans to increase public sector salaries in the upcoming budget, marking a significant step in the National People’s Power (NPP) government’s efforts to enhance the welfare of employees.
Additionally, the President instructed divisional secretariats to facilitate appeals from families not currently receiving the ‘Aswesuma’ welfare benefits. He assured that these appeals would be addressed fairly, free from political bias, and that assistance would be provided to families struggling to afford basic necessities like food and medicine. This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to improving the living standards of its citizens, particularly vulnerable populations.
