Preliminary Results of 2024 Parliamentary Elections Expected by 10 PM

The Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, has announced that the initial results of the 2024 parliamentary elections will be made public by 10 p.m. today. Voting commenced at 7 a.m. across 13,314 polling stations nationwide and is set to conclude at 4 p.m.

As the day unfolds, the counting of postal votes is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The efficiency of counting centers will play a crucial role in how quickly and accurately the results are tallied. In this election, a total of 8,888 candidates are vying for seats, with an eligible voter base of 17,140,354 individuals.

However, officials indicate that weather conditions later in the day could potentially affect voter turnout and the counting process. As the nation awaits the outcome, all eyes are on the polling stations and counting centers to see how this pivotal election will shape the future governance of the country.
