At a recent meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business in Parliament, presided over by Speaker Hon. Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, it was decided that the debate on the Appropriation Bill for the year 2025 (Budget Debate) will take place from February 18th to March 21st, 2025.
The Appropriation Bill for 2025 will be presented for the first reading on January 9th, followed by the Budget Speech on February 17th and a seven-day debate on the second reading from February 18th to 25th. The vote on the second reading is scheduled for February 25th at 6:00 p.m.
Subsequently, the Committee Stage Debate on the Appropriation Bill will span 19 days, including 4 Saturdays, from February 27th to March 21st. The vote on the third reading is slated for March 21st at 6:00 p.m.
During the budget period, 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. will be designated for 5 Questions for Oral Answers, with the budget debate scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Additionally, time from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. will be allocated for motions at the adjournment time on all days, except February 25th and March 21st, which are designated for the respective votes.
