The Right to Information has no right to disclose information while a court case is still ongoing, and I will take appropriate action for this, says MP Namal Rajapaksa.
He made this statement while speaking to The NewsdeskSL a short while ago today (19).
“The RTI has no authority to disclose any information without my consent as I am a Member of Parliament. Additionally, the RTI has disclosed information which is currently ongoing in courts, this will not hamper with the current court proceedings,” Rajapaksa said.
He further noted that he intends to lodge a police complaint tomorrow against the RTI and relavent people who have disclosed information which is still under investigation.
“When journalists filed RTI’s questioning the finances into the President’s expenses during his foreign travels, those were rejected. But they can go and disclose all this information. Goes to show how the RTI functions,” he concluded.
