MP Dilith Jayaweera proposed in Parliament that titles such as Doctor, Professor, etc. should be avoided when introducing MPs in the House as it leads to social division.
He told Parliament that MPs who come from various professions are in the House and that introducing them with titles before them must be avoided.
“A doctor is relevant to hospitals and a Professor is relevant to universities. So, I propose that using their titles in the House be avoided,” he said.
