Brigadier Chandika Mahathanthila, Director of Military Intelligence, has lodged a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against a YouTuber who allegedly delivered a hate speech suggesting a plot to create unrest in the nation prior to the forthcoming Presidential election.
Major General Rasika Kumara, the Military Spokesman, verified that Brigadier Mahathanthila submitted the complaint on Wednesday (September 11), urging the CID to probe the content of the contentious YouTube video. The video, attributed to Ajith Dharmapala residing overseas, purportedly insinuated a forthcoming disturbance in the country post-September 12, orchestrated by deploying 200 officers from the Military Intelligence Corps.
In his complaint, the Director accused the YouTuber of disseminating false information with the intent of undermining the military’s spirit and efficacy for political gains. He argued that the allegations aimed to stoke unrest and unfairly implicate the intelligence agencies, adding that such deceitful assertions could jeopardise the safety of him and his family.
