The number of Sri Lankan working individuals migrating to South Korea has grown by 44%, surpassing 5,000 people.
According to Sri Lanka’s Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara, the statistic showed the country’s efforts to enhance employment opportunities.
The director of the South Korean human resources department based in Sri Lanka agreed to provide 8,000 jobs for Sri Lankans in South Korea this year. This exceeded the job quota of 6,500 offered earlier.
According to official data, Sri Lankan workers’ remittance in August surpassed 499 million U.S. dollars in 2023, and the overall figure for the January-August period was approximately 3.9 billion dollars, increasing by 74.4 percent compared with the same period in 2022. Workers’ remittance remains one of the main sources of foreign revenues for Sri Lanka.
