A new Barbie is set to celebrate the largest Indian festival of the year— ‘Diwali Barbie’, the latest doll from Mattel.
The parent company of Barbie, Mattel, launched this new doll to honor the Hindu Festival of Lights, occurring this year from October 31 to November 1.
Diwali Barbie was created in collaboration with Indian designer Anita Dongre and features traditional Indian attire, including a cropped top (choli), a floral vest (koti), and a patterned ankle-length skirt (lehenga).
“In celebration of Diwali, Barbie and I are inviting fans worldwide to embrace the rich heritage of Indian fashion and culture,” said Anita. Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, spans five days and varies in date each year.
This festival is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs globally, with each religion commemorating different historical events and stories. It symbolises the victory of good over evil and light over darkness.
