An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon has killed three journalists, according to reports. The attack occurred around 4 a.m. in Hasbaiyya, targeting a compound housing several journalists as they slept. The victims included two cameramen, Ghassan Najjar and Mohamed Reda, and a technician, Wissam Qassim, who worked for Al Mayadeen and Al-Manar TV.
Al Jazeera’s reporter, Imran Khan, emphasized the seriousness of the incident, noting that there were no evacuation orders in Hasbaiyya and the area had been relatively calm. Lebanon’s Information Minister, Ziad Makary, condemned the bombing as a “war crime,” describing it as a premeditated assassination of journalists. He highlighted that 18 journalists from various media organizations were present at the site.
This attack follows a recent Israeli strike on an Al Mayadeen office in Beirut, which resulted in one death and several injuries. Khan stated that the incident serves as a warning to journalists covering the conflict, suggesting an attempt by Israel to limit media visibility in southern Lebanon. The targeting of journalists has raised concerns about their safety amid ongoing hostilities in the region.
