Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir attracted attention for his controversial behaviour at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium (PICS) during the Asia Cup 2023 Group B clash between India and Nepal.
In a video circulated widely on social media, Gambhir was seen showing the ‘middle finger’ to fans who were chanting Virat Kohli’s name as he walked past them. Gambhir, who was talking on the phone, turned towards the chanting fans and made the gesture.
In response to the viral video, Gambhir stated, “What is shown on social media has no truth in it because people show whatever they want to show. The truth about the video that went viral is that if you raise anti-India slogans and speak about Kashmir, then the person before you will obviously react and not smile and leave. There were 2-3 Pakistanis there who were speaking anti-India things and things on Kashmir. So, it was my natural reaction. I can’t hear anything against my country. So, that was my reaction…”
However, many fans are sceptical of Gambhir’s explanation and believe that he was simply showing his dislike for Kohli.
Kohli and Gambhir have had a frosty relationship for many years, and it is no secret that Gambhir despises Kohli.
Gambhir’s actions have been condemned by many and some have even called for him to apologize.
