Former national cricketer Sachithra Senanayake further remanded for match-fixing allegations

Former national cricketer Sachithra Senanayake  has been further remanded, until the 25th of September, on orders by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, in the case filed filed against him in connection to match-fixing allegations.

The  order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis, when Senanayake was presented before the court today (15).

An overseas travel ban was imposed on the former national player, on orders of the Colombo Magistrates Court, on 14 August, a day after the Attorney General’s Department instructed the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs to file criminal charges against Senanayake for alleged match-fixing, as sufficient evidence has been gathered to support the charges.

Senanayake surrendered himself to the Special Investigations Unit of the Sports Ministy earlier this month.

he has been accused of contacting two players who were playing for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) from Dubai, asking them to ‘fix’ the matches they were playing in.
