During a bail hearing following his arrest by the Bribery Commission, Prasanna Ranatunga’s counsel informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate that the former Minister had undergone surgery and requires small portions of food every four hours, supplemented with special protein mixtures.
The attorney further noted that failing to adhere to this diet, Ranatunga could go into a coma and his life could be at risk.
Considering the medical grounds and lack of evidence by the Bribery Commission, the court granted bail to Ranatunga and further imposed an overseas travel ban.
