Flood Alerts Amid Rising Water Levels in Nilwala River

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has reported minor flooding in two locations and issued a flood alert for one area as of 6:30 am today, following increased water levels in the Nilwala River and Yan-Oya. The Thalgahagoda and Panadugama regions have experienced minor floods due to the rising waters of the Nilwala River, prompting the DMC to take action.

Additionally, a flood alert has been issued for the Horrowpathana area in response to the escalation of water levels in the Yan-Oya. As a precautionary measure, the DMC has also released landslide warnings for six districts, effective until 4:00 pm today. A Level 1 Yellow Alert has been activated for Badulla, Galle, Kegalle, Matara, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura Districts.

Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety amid the adverse weather conditions. The DMC continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as needed to mitigate risks associated with flooding and landslides.
