While Sri Lanka is facing it’s worst possible economic crisis, the Foreign Minister Ali Sabry has taken his son, who is only 19 years old, for state affairs meetings, which is shocking, says Samagi Jana Balawegaya Youth (STB) Vice Chairman Rehan Jayawickreme, on behalf of the party.
He mentioned this while speaking exclusively with The News Desk today (22).
“Not only has the President taken along the worst possible delegation on an official visit, he has taken individuals who are completely irrelevant for vital state affairs meetings. It is shocking to see that the Foreign Minister’s son has also accompanied the delegation and attended meetings. The President has also taken Ruwan Wijewardena, who is also not a parliamentarian,” said Jayawickreme.
He further noted that even if Sabry’s son travelled on his personal expenses, he shouldn’t have been included in vital meetings which is a breech of protocol.
“If he (Sabry’s son) travelled with the delegates on his own expenses, he should be in his own hotel room and not mingling with affairs of the state. Images prove that Sabry’s son attended vital meetings with his father. The Foreign Minister has broken all decent protocol, this is something about decency, ethics and morals. Someone who preaches morals, has taken his own son to these meetings,” Jayawickreme noted.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe, along with a delegation from Sri Lanka, travelled to the United States to attend the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Social Media outrage has been poured over the number of delegates who have travelled on state funds to attend an assembly in a foreign country, during an economic crisis in the country.
