At least four Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel have been injured have been hospitalised. The STF personnel, who were on duty at the expressway, have attributed their injuries to the earthslip near the 102km Post between Pinnaduwa and Imaduwa interchanges of the Southern Expressway.
The Director General of the Road Development Authority (RDA) claimed that mounds of earth on either side of the expressway, near the 102nd kilometer post between Pinnaduwa and Imaduwa had collapsed onto the road.
Residents living in the up-lying areas on both sides of the expressway are requested to evacuate immediately to safer areas.
A blocking of the Southern Expressway was reported earlier. This too was caused by an earthslip near the 102km Post between Pinnaduwa and Imaduwa interchanges.
Motorists entering the Southern Expressway from the Galle direction are advised to exit from the Imaduwa interchange while motorists arriving from the direction of Colombo are requested to exit from Pinnaduwa interchange.
