Political activist Dan Priyasad, who had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital, after being shot, has succumbed to his injuries a short while ago.
The 39-year-old was hospitalised last night after being shot in front of his residence at the ‘Laksanda Sevana’ apartment complex in Meetotamulla by two unidentified men who arrived on a motorbike, police said.
He was then admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo with critical injuries, which the police initially said he has died, but then again confirmed that he was in the ICU.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Dan Priyasad was shot with a pistol-type firearm, and the shooting was carried out by the assailants while the victim was attending a party.
Investigations are currently ongoing by the Wellampitiya police.
